Adopting the perspective of a son seeking to understand his mother, Tsai documents nearly fifty years of her journey as a Vietnamese immigrant in Taiwan. Through a "Private Photography" (Shi-shashin) approach, he weaves together personal and family emotions tied to his mother’s aspirations. This book is more than a family memoir; it is a profound generational dialogue that expands into the broader historical intersection of Taiwan and Vietnam.
